1. Scope, contract and definitions

1.1 The Rental Agreement

The Rental Agreement consists of:

1. the confirmed booking;
2. the Rental Agreement signed or accepted at pick-up;
3. these Terms and Conditions;
4. the Vehicle condition report; and
5. any written amendment confirmed by Skiathos Rental.

Each booking is governed by the terms accepted when it was made. Any subsequent amendment to these Terms will not apply retrospectively unless required by law or expressly accepted by both parties. The customer receives the booking confirmation and the applicable Terms on a durable electronic medium.

1.2 Definitions

In these Terms:

• Renter means the person named as the main driver and contracting customer.
• Authorised Driver means the Renter or an additional driver named in the Rental Agreement and approved by Skiathos Rental.
• Vehicle means the scooter, motorcycle, ATV or Buggy / Side-by-Side specified in the Rental Agreement, together with its keys and any equipment supplied with it.
• Rental Period means the period from the agreed pick-up time until the Vehicle and all supplied items are returned to and accepted by Skiathos Rental.
• Protection Plan means Basic Protection or Comfort Protection, as stated in the booking and the Rental Agreement.
• Covered Damage means damage expressly covered by the selected Protection Plan, subject to all applicable conditions and exclusions.
• Written confirmation includes confirmation by email, booking-system message or another durable electronic medium used by Skiathos Rental.

1.3 Customer’s fundamental obligations

The Renter must provide complete and accurate booking information, confirm that every proposed driver is legally entitled to drive the selected Vehicle in Greece and immediately notify Skiathos Rental of any change that may affect the rental. Skiathos Rental may refuse or terminate the rental if a requirement relating to legality, driving licence, safety, identification, payment or security deposit is not met. Any refund depends on the reason for the refusal and the cancellation provisions of Section 7.

1.4 Vehicle categories

2. Driver eligibility and driving licences

2.1 Minimum age and permitted Vehicle categories

Eligibility is determined by the driver’s age on the first day of the Rental Period:

The 19–20, 21–24 and 25+ age groups are used to apply the young-driver surcharges in Section 3.2 and do not alter the driving-licence requirements.

2.2 Length of licence holding and ability to drive safely

Every driver must hold the appropriate, full and valid driving licence. No specific minimum period of licence holding is required. For drivers aged 21 and over, lack of previous experience is not automatically grounds for exclusion. However, Skiathos Rental may refuse handover if, during the Vehicle briefing and demonstration, the driver cannot demonstrate basic and safe control of the Vehicle or gives reasonable cause for concern regarding their own safety, the safety of third parties or the protection of the Vehicle. An initial briefing and practical operating demonstration are provided for ATVs and Buggies / Side-by-Sides.

2.3 Driving-licence category

The driver must hold the licence category legally required in Greece for the selected Vehicle:

• S1 50cc scooter: AM, A1, A2 or A. An EU/EEA Category B licence is accepted only where it legally entitles the holder to drive the specific Vehicle in Greece and Skiathos Rental has verified that entitlement.
• S2 125cc scooter: A1, A2 or A, depending on the applicable legal requirements.
• S3–S4 scooter over 125cc: A2 or A, depending on the power and legal classification of the model.
• ATV: the licence category required by the Vehicle registration document and its legal classification, normally a valid Category B licence where permitted by law.
• BG1 Buggy / Side-by-Side: a valid Category B licence, provided this is permitted by the registration document and legal classification of the specific Vehicle.

Holding a car licence does not automatically entitle a person to drive every scooter, ATV or Buggy / Side-by-Side. The licence category, restrictions, date of issue and validity must be verified before handover.

2.4 Country of issue and International Driving Permit

• Drivers holding a licence issued in the EU/EEA must present the original, valid, physical driving licence.
• A valid UK photocard driving licence may be accepted without an International Driving Permit, provided the required entitlement for the selected Vehicle is clearly shown and legally recognised in Greece.
• Whether an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required depends on the country that issued the national licence and whether that particular licence is recognised for driving in Greece. Skiathos Rental does not require an IDP where current Greek law does not require one. If in doubt, the driver must contact Skiathos Rental before booking.

The Renter is responsible for obtaining any required IDP before travelling. Temporary licences, learner permits, expired licences, photographs or photocopies, and exclusively digital licences that cannot legally be verified are not accepted. The required licence category is displayed on each Vehicle page before booking. The Renter is responsible for confirming that every driver holds the correct and valid licence for the selected Vehicle. Licences are checked at handover and are not pre-approved by Skiathos Rental. If the required valid licence is not presented, the Vehicle will not be handed over and the relevant cancellation terms will apply.

2.5 Special rule for drivers aged 19–20

A driver aged 19–20 may rent only an S1 50cc scooter and must have previous practical experience riding a scooter or motorcycle. Drivers in this age group who would be riding a scooter for the first time are not accepted. Skiathos Rental may carry out a reasonable safe-handling assessment before handover. Handover may be refused if the driver cannot demonstrate basic and safe control of the Vehicle or if the experience declared at the time of booking was inaccurate. If the customer provided inaccurate information about age, licence or driving experience, Section 7.6 applies.

2.6 Additional drivers

Up to two drivers in total may be registered for each Vehicle. Every driver must meet all age, licence, identification and experience requirements and must be named in the Rental Agreement before driving. The additional-driver fee is:

• €3 per rental day for a scooter; or
• €5 per rental day for an ATV or BG1 Buggy / Side-by-Side.

No person who has not been registered as an Authorised Driver may drive the Vehicle. Protection may become invalid in respect of any loss, damage or liability arising while the Vehicle is being driven by an unauthorised person.

3. Booking, prices, payment and security-deposit pre-authorisation

3.1 Booking confirmation and Vehicle availability

A booking becomes binding only when Skiathos Rental sends written confirmation. A request, quotation or incomplete booking process does not guarantee availability. The booking is for the Vehicle model stated in the written confirmation, but not for a specific registration number. Skiathos Rental provides the model booked. If, before handover, that model becomes unavailable because of a mechanical or electrical fault, accident damage or another issue preventing its safe operation, Skiathos Rental will inform the customer and may offer a suitable replacement Vehicle under Section 7.7. Any replacement Vehicle must be one that the driver may legally drive under their licence.

3.2 Prices and payment

The total rental price, selected optional services and every mandatory charge are displayed in euros before booking confirmation. Unless clearly stated otherwise, consumer prices include applicable VAT. No undisclosed mandatory charge is added at pick-up. A young-driver surcharge of 15% for drivers aged 19–20 and 10% for drivers aged 21–24 applies to the Vehicle’s base rental price. Drivers aged 25 and over pay the standard rate. Where more than one Authorised Driver is registered, the surcharge is calculated according to the age of the youngest driver. The surcharge applies only to the Vehicle’s base rental price and not to Comfort Protection, the security-deposit pre-authorisation, delivery, an additional driver or any other optional service. It is calculated automatically and included in the total price displayed before booking confirmation. Payment may be made by the methods displayed during booking or expressly approved by Skiathos Rental. The cardholder may be required to present identification and authorise the transaction. Any amount becoming payable after the rental must be supported by the Rental Agreement, these Terms and reasonable evidence.

3.3 Security-deposit pre-authorisation

A refundable security-deposit pre-authorisation is required before the Vehicle is handed over.

Basic Protection

Comfort Protection

The security-deposit pre-authorisation:

• is a temporary hold and not a charge when made on a payment card;
• is not an insurance excess;
• is not a cap on liability under Basic Protection;
• does not alter the €0 liability for Covered Damage under Comfort Protection; and
• may be used only for amounts lawfully due under the Rental Agreement, such as excluded damage, missing fuel, lost or damaged keys, fines, disclosed administrative fees, exceptional cleaning, missing items or other documented charges.

Skiathos Rental initiates release of the unused pre-authorised amount no later than one business day after the Vehicle is returned and the return inspection has been completed. The time required for the funds to become available again depends on the customer’s bank or card provider. Every amount retained or charged will be itemised and, where applicable, supported by photographs and a repair estimate, invoice, official charge or other reasonable evidence.

3.4 Cash security deposit

A cash security deposit may be accepted only where:

• the rental lasts at least three days;
• the main driver is at least 21 years old; and
• Skiathos Rental has approved the arrangement in writing before pick-up.

Acceptance of cash is not guaranteed. The unused amount is returned after the return inspection and deduction of any properly documented amount due.

4. Insurance, Protection Plans and financial liability

4.1 Mandatory third-party liability insurance

Every rental includes the mandatory third-party liability insurance required by Greek law. The insurance covers eligible third-party liability within the limits of the policy and the law. By itself, it does not cover damage to the rented Vehicle, injury to the driver, personal belongings or every possible loss.

4.2 Basic Protection — included

Basic Protection is included in the rental price and is subject to the separate Vehicle Total Theft Protection terms in Section 4.4. Under Basic Protection, except for covered total theft under Section 4.4, the Renter is liable for the reasonable and documented cost of damage to or other loss of the rented Vehicle, including necessary parts and labour, except to the extent that the same cost is recovered from an identified at-fault third party, insurer or other responsible person. Basic Protection does not provide a fixed maximum limit of financial liability for damage to the rented Vehicle. The security-deposit pre-authorisation is not the maximum amount that may be payable. Fair wear and tear is not charged. Skiathos Rental will not recover compensation twice for the same damage.

4.3 Comfort Protection — optional additional service

Comfort Protection is recommended for travellers who want greater peace of mind during their rental. If an unforeseen accident occurs while the Vehicle is being used lawfully and responsibly, the Renter’s financial liability for Covered Damage to the rented Vehicle is reduced to €0. Comfort Protection is a contractual damage waiver provided by Skiathos Rental. It is not a separate comprehensive insurance policy and does not provide personal-accident, medical-expense or personal-belongings cover. The daily charge depends on the rental month and Vehicle category. It is displayed before booking confirmation and charged for every rental day without a duration discount.

What Comfort Protection includes

• €0 liability for Covered Damage to the rented Vehicle.
• Cover for accidental collision, impact, fall or overturning.
• An ordinary driver error resulting in a sudden and unintentional collision, loss of balance, incorrect manoeuvre, fall or overturning, provided all relevant conditions have been met.
• Vehicle Total Theft Protection under Section 4.4, which is included with every rental.
• Priority in the coordination of roadside assistance, after emergencies have been attended to and subject to Section 11 and the availability of local partners.

When €0 liability applies

The zero-liability benefit applies only where:

• the Vehicle is driven by an Authorised Driver holding the correct and valid licence;
• the Vehicle is used normally and responsibly on a paved road or a suitable unpaved road legally open to vehicle traffic;
• the accident is sudden and unintentional;
• the Rental Agreement and the Vehicle-use conditions have been complied with;
• the accident is reported to Skiathos Rental immediately;
• the Renter follows the accident-reporting procedure and provides the requested information, photographs and documents; and
• a police or other official accident report is made where required by law or reasonably requested by Skiathos Rental.

Security-deposit pre-authorisation with Comfort Protection

The refundable security-deposit pre-authorisation is still required under Section 3.3. It is not an insurance excess and does not alter the zero liability for Covered Damage. It may be used for excluded damage or loss, missing fuel, lost or damaged keys, fines, disclosed administrative fees, exceptional cleaning, missing items or other amounts lawfully due under the Rental Agreement.

What Comfort Protection does not cover

Comfort Protection does not apply to damage or loss caused by, arising from or materially connected with:

• deliberate damage, fraud or an intentional act by the Renter, driver or passenger;
• vandalism or malicious damage, unless expressly confirmed otherwise in writing;
• driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or another substance that impairs safe driving;
• dangerous or reckless driving, racing, speed testing, wheelies or stunts;
• driving by an unauthorised person or without the correct and valid driving licence;
• genuine off-road use, beaches, tracks, fields, woodland, sand, dunes, rocky terrain, closed or restricted-access roads, unsuitable dirt roads or other hazardous terrain;
• gross negligence, misuse, overloading or use of the Vehicle for a purpose for which it was not designed;
• use outside the permitted geographical area or unauthorised transport by ferry;
• failure to report the accident promptly or follow the required procedure, where that failure prevents or materially affects investigation of the incident;
• continuing to drive after an accident, warning light, puncture or evident mechanical problem, where doing so causes or increases the damage;
• use of the wrong fuel or running out of fuel; or
• failure to lock, secure or safeguard the Vehicle or its keys.

The following components or types of damage are also excluded unless Skiathos Rental expressly confirms otherwise in writing:

• tyres, inner tubes and punctures;
• wheels and rims;
• mirrors;
• keys, locks, ignition systems and immobilisers;
• damage to the underside of the Vehicle;
• helmets, top box, smartphone holder and other removable accessories;
• personal belongings, mobile phones and electronic devices;
• exceptional cleaning, seawater or flood damage; and
• mechanical damage caused by misuse rather than an accidental external impact.

If an excluded component is damaged during an otherwise covered accident, the eligible part of the repair remains covered. The Renter is liable only for the excluded component, the directly related reasonable labour or another excluded loss.

Simple rule

If the Renter has an unforeseen accident while driving lawfully, responsibly and on a permitted road, Skiathos Rental covers the eligible Vehicle damage. If the damage arises from prohibited use, reckless conduct, gross negligence or another express exclusion, Comfort Protection does not apply to that particular loss and the Renter may be liable for the full, reasonable and documented cost.

4.4 Vehicle Total Theft Protection — included with every rental

100% protection against total theft of the rented Vehicle is included under both Basic Protection and Comfort Protection. Where all the following conditions are met, the Renter has €0 financial liability for total theft of the Vehicle. Protection applies only where:

• the Vehicle was properly locked and secured whenever left unattended;
• the steering or ignition lock and every anti-theft device supplied were used correctly;
• no key was left on, in or near the Vehicle or made accessible to an unauthorised person;
• all original keys supplied at pick-up are returned to Skiathos Rental;
• the Vehicle was used and parked within the permitted geographical area;
• the Vehicle was not abandoned or transported by ferry without the written approval required by Section 13;
• the theft is reported immediately to Skiathos Rental and the police;
• an official police theft report is obtained and submitted; and
• the Renter cooperates fully with Skiathos Rental, the police and the insurer.

Vehicle Total Theft Protection does not apply in the event of fraud, an intentional act, gross negligence, abandonment, failure to secure or report the Vehicle, unauthorised use, keys left on, in or near the Vehicle, or interference with an installed security or tracking system. Partial theft, theft of removable accessories and theft of personal belongings are not covered. If the entire Vehicle is stolen in circumstances satisfying all the conditions above, standard equipment that was properly fitted to or normally stored with the Vehicle is treated as part of the total theft and is not charged separately. If the conditions are not met, the Renter may be liable, to the extent permitted by law, for the reasonable and documented loss not recovered from an insurer or another responsible party. Skiathos Rental will not recover compensation twice for the same loss.

4.5 Protection applies to the relevant loss

A breach of these Terms invalidates a Protection Plan only to the extent that the breach caused, contributed to or materially affected the particular damage, loss, liability or the ability to investigate it, unless a mandatory rule of law requires a different outcome. This provision does not extend the time period or geographical scope of a Protection Plan or alter its express exclusions.

5. Vehicle condition, inspection and replacement

Before departure, the Vehicle’s visible condition, fuel level, mileage and supplied items are recorded. The Renter must inspect the Vehicle and ask Skiathos Rental to record any visible discrepancy before driving it. The Renter must return the Vehicle, keys and supplied equipment in the same general condition, except for fair wear and tear and any Covered Damage properly reported under these Terms. Replacement of a Vehicle before handover is governed by Sections 3.1 and 7.7. If a breakdown occurs after handover, Section 11.2 applies.

6. Free equipment, keys and accessories

6.1 Equipment included free of charge with scooters and ATVs

Every rented scooter and ATV is supplied free of charge with:

• one helmet for the driver;
• one helmet for the passenger;
• one top box; and
• one smartphone holder.

No daily rental charge applies to these items. Their presence and condition are recorded at pick-up, and they must be returned with the Vehicle in the same general condition, except for fair wear and tear. The BG1 Buggy / Side-by-Side does not include free helmets, a top box or smartphone holder.

6.2 Safe use and liability

The driver and passenger must wear the supplied helmets correctly and comply with all helmet and road-safety rules. Each person is responsible for checking before setting off that their helmet fits and fastens correctly. The smartphone holder is provided for convenience. The Renter must fit and secure the phone carefully, must not operate it while driving in any manner prohibited by law and remains responsible for the phone and all other personal electronic devices. Personal devices and belongings are not covered. Supplied equipment must not be removed, modified, transferred to another vehicle or used improperly. The Renter is liable for the reasonable and documented cost of repairing or replacing supplied equipment that is lost, stolen separately, deliberately damaged or damaged through misuse. Fair wear and tear is not charged. Charges for cleaning beyond normal use are set out in Section 12.5.

6.3 Keys

All keys supplied must be safeguarded and returned. If a key is lost, broken, damaged or not returned, the Renter is liable for the reasonable and documented cost arising directly from the incident, which may include the key, programming, immobiliser, ignition or lock components and labour.

7. Cancellation, no-show and booking changes

7.1 Flexible payment option

The flexible payment option requires a €50 booking deposit.

• Cancellation received at least 48 hours before the confirmed pick-up time: the €50 deposit is refunded.
• Cancellation received less than 48 hours before pick-up: a cancellation fee equal to the €50 booking deposit applies.
• No-show as defined in Section 8.7: a fee equal to the €50 booking deposit applies.

7.2 Full prepayment option

When the customer selects the 5% full-prepayment discount, they choose a lower, non-refundable rate in exchange for paying in full at the time of booking. The non-refundable nature of the rate is displayed before confirmation. The full rental amount is not refunded if the customer cancels or does not show up, unless Skiathos Rental is unable to provide the agreed service or a refund is required by a mandatory rule of law.

7.3 Statutory withdrawal period does not apply

For vehicle-rental services booked for a specific date or period, the general 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to the extent provided by applicable law for the particular booking. The cancellation terms in this Section apply without limiting any mandatory consumer right.

7.4 How to cancel

Cancellation must be sent by email or through the booking channel and takes effect when received by Skiathos Rental. The customer must retain the cancellation confirmation. An approved refund is made to the original payment method, normally within 14 calendar days. Processing times of banks or card providers may vary.

7.5 Booking changes and extensions

Where possible, a request to change dates, times, Vehicle category, driver or service must be submitted at least 48 hours before pick-up. Every change is subject to availability, legal eligibility and the price applicable to the amended booking. A request to change or extend the rental is not effective until confirmed in writing by Skiathos Rental. Keeping the Vehicle beyond the confirmed return time without approval constitutes an unauthorised late return.

7.6 Refusal of handover because customer requirements are not met

The booking may be treated as a late cancellation or no-show, and the corresponding amount may be non-refundable, where the Vehicle cannot be handed over legally or safely because the customer:

• does not present the required original identification document, driving licence or IDP;
• does not meet the confirmed age or experience requirement;
• provided inaccurate or incomplete eligibility information;
• refuses or is unable to provide the security deposit required by Section 3.3; or
• cannot demonstrate basic and safe control of the Vehicle during the briefing and handling demonstration; or
• appears unable to drive safely, including because of alcohol or drugs.

This provision does not apply where the refusal is due to an error by Skiathos Rental and the customer had provided complete and accurate information.

7.7 Cancellation or unavailability by Skiathos Rental

If, for one of the reasons in Section 3.1, Skiathos Rental cannot provide the model booked, it may offer:

• an equivalent or higher category without an additional rental charge;
• a lower category only with the customer’s acceptance and a proportionate refund of the price difference; or
• cancellation with a full refund of amounts paid for the unavailable service.

To the extent permitted by law, Skiathos Rental is not liable for indirect or incidental travel expenses, without excluding any liability that cannot legally be excluded.

8. Pick-up, delivery, rental-day calculation and late return

8.1 Standard service hours

Standard pick-up, delivery and return hours are 09:00–21:00. Out-of-hours service is available only with prior written confirmation and subject to staff availability. A fixed €20 charge applies to each agreed out-of-hours pick-up or return. Requests made less than 24 hours in advance may not be accommodated.

8.2 Delivery and meeting points

Pick-up or delivery may be arranged at the office, port, airport, accommodation or another agreed meeting point. Any location or remote-delivery charge is disclosed and confirmed before booking. The customer must provide accurate arrival and contact details and immediately notify Skiathos Rental of any flight, ferry or other transport delay. Skiathos Rental will make reasonable efforts to adjust the delivery, subject to availability and any confirmed out-of-hours charge.

8.3 Rental-day calculation

For booking and pricing purposes, one rental day means a booking in which the Vehicle is collected on the start date and scheduled for return no later than 10:00 on the following calendar day, regardless of the confirmed pick-up time. Each subsequent period ending at 10:00 on the following calendar day is charged as one additional rental day. If a scheduled return time of 10:01 or later is selected and confirmed during booking, one full additional day is added to the booking price. The rule above applies solely to the scheduled duration and price of the booking. It does not apply where the Renter selected a return time up to 10:00 but returns the Vehicle later because of an unscheduled delay. In that case, only the late-return charges in Section 8.4 apply, based on the actual delay from the confirmed return time.

8.4 Unscheduled late return

If the Vehicle is returned after the confirmed return time without an approved extension:

Where one full additional day is charged, the 30–59-minute late fee is not added. Therefore, if the confirmed return time is 10:00 and the Vehicle is returned at 11:00 or later, one full additional day is charged. An unauthorised late return may also affect the next customer and may be reported to the authorities where the Vehicle is not returned and Skiathos Rental cannot contact the Renter.

8.5 Selecting an incorrect pick-up time

The confirmed pick-up time is a scheduled handover appointment. The Renter is responsible for selecting a realistic time at which they will be ready to receive the Vehicle. For airport or port deliveries, sufficient time must be allowed for arrival, disembarkation, baggage collection and travel to the agreed meeting point. If the selected time is incorrect or does not match the actual flight or ferry details, the Renter must inform Skiathos Rental as soon as possible. The original appointment does not automatically move to the new arrival time. Skiathos Rental will advise the next available delivery time based on the existing schedule and Vehicle availability. It cannot guarantee immediate delivery at the new arrival time.

8.6 Unforeseen flight or ferry delay

If a flight or ferry is unexpectedly delayed, the Renter must inform Skiathos Rental as soon as they become aware of the delay. Skiathos Rental will make reasonable efforts to adjust the delivery time. If staff are already attending other scheduled deliveries, the Vehicle will be handed over at the next available time advised by Skiathos Rental. A flight or ferry delay does not automatically extend the Rental Period or alter the agreed return time or price unless the change is confirmed in writing. If the revised delivery takes place outside standard service hours, the charge in Section 8.1 may apply.

8.7 Absence without notice

If the Renter is not at the agreed location at the confirmed time and has not given notice of a change or delay, delivery cannot be guaranteed. If one hour passes after the confirmed pick-up time without the Renter being present or providing any notice, the booking may be treated as a no-show under Section 7. Before the one-hour period expires, delivery remains subject to the existing schedule and may be moved to the next available time.

9. Fuel

The Vehicle is supplied with a recorded fuel level and must be returned with the same level. If fuel is missing, the Renter is charged:

• €2.50 per missing litre; and
• a fixed €5 refuelling service charge.

No refund or credit is provided for additional fuel left in the Vehicle. The Renter must use the correct fuel specified at handover. Damage, transport and fuel-system draining caused by incorrect fuel are not covered by Comfort Protection.

10. Permitted use, unpaved roads and prohibited use

10.1 Permitted roads

The Vehicle may be used on paved public roads and on suitable unpaved roads that are legally open to vehicle traffic, provided the road is appropriate for the Vehicle, the weather and prevailing conditions, and all signs, restrictions and official instructions are observed. Driving on an unpaved road is not automatically considered off-road use.

10.2 Genuine off-road use

For the purposes of these Terms, genuine off-road use means leaving a formed road or driving on a surface or in an area that is not intended or legally open for ordinary vehicle traffic. It includes beaches, paths, fields, woodland, sand, dunes, rocky terrain, closed or restricted-access roads, unsuitable dirt roads and hazardous terrain. Genuine off-road use is prohibited. If the Renter is unsure whether a route is permitted or suitable, they must contact Skiathos Rental before entering it.

10.3 Other prohibited uses

The Vehicle must not:

• be driven by an unauthorised person or a person without the correct and valid licence;
• be used outside the permitted geographical area or transported by ferry without the approval required under Section 13;
• be driven under the influence of alcohol, drugs or another substance that impairs driving ability;
• be used for racing, speed testing, wheelies, stunts, towing, pushing or competitions;
• be overloaded or used with more passengers than legally permitted;
• be used to carry hazardous, illegal or unsuitable items;
• be sublet, lent, transferred or used for carriage for reward or another unauthorised commercial purpose;
• be used on a beach, path, field, in woodland, on sand, dunes, rocky terrain, a closed road or another genuine off-road area;
• be used without the helmet or safety equipment required by law;
• be left unlocked, unsecured or with the keys on, in or near it;
• be operated after an accident, warning light, puncture or evident mechanical problem where continued use may be dangerous or increase the damage; or
• be used contrary to its manufacturer’s intended purpose, the Greek Road Traffic Code, police instructions, road signs or Skiathos Rental’s reasonable safety instructions.

The Renter must take reasonable care of the Vehicle, ensure that it is parked and locked securely and notify Skiathos Rental immediately of any safety issue or abnormal operation.

11. Roadside assistance, mechanical problems and replacement

11.1 Assistance hours and scope

• 09:00–18:00: full coordination of roadside assistance for accidents, breakdowns and operational problems.
• 18:00–09:00: coordination of emergency assistance for accidents, theft and serious safety incidents. Non-urgent matters may be handled from 09:00 the following day.

These hours concern the availability of full technical and roadside support and do not alter the standard pick-up, delivery and customer-service hours of 09:00–21:00 under Section 8.1. Assistance is coordinated as quickly as reasonably possible in the circumstances, but no specific arrival time is guaranteed. Timing depends on location, traffic, weather, ferry connections, local partners and service availability.

11.2 Breakdown not caused by the Renter

In the event of a mechanical or electrical breakdown not caused by an accident, misuse or breach of these Terms, Skiathos Rental will arrange assistance and will not charge the Renter for the covered call-out or repair. Where reasonably possible, Skiathos Rental will repair the Vehicle or provide a suitable replacement, subject to availability and the driver’s licence entitlements. If the Vehicle cannot be made operational and no replacement can be provided within a reasonable time, Skiathos Rental will refund the amount corresponding to the unused rental time during which the Vehicle was unavailable.

11.3 Assistance required because of the driver’s actions

Where assistance is required because of driver error, misuse or an excluded incident, the Renter pays the reasonable cost charged by the third-party provider. Examples include:

• a flat battery because lights or equipment were left on;
• a puncture or tyre damage caused by an obstacle or unsuitable surface;
• becoming immobilised in sand or prohibited terrain;
• running out of fuel or using the wrong fuel;
• a key that is lost, broken or locked inside the Vehicle; or
• recovery required following prohibited use.

Skiathos Rental coordinates the service and passes on the official charge of the repairer, recovery service or partner without any undisclosed mark-up. Any separate charge specified in these Terms remains payable.

11.4 Geographical limits

Standard roadside assistance applies within Skiathos. Assistance in Skopelos or Alonissos is available only where the approved Ferry Travel Assistance under Section 13 was purchased before departure and is subject to the availability of local partners.

12. Accidents, damage, reporting and charges

12.1 Immediate procedure following an incident

Following an accident, collision, fall, overturning, theft, vandalism or significant damage, the Renter must:

1. stop safely, protect human life and call 112 if emergency assistance is required;
2. immediately notify Skiathos Rental using the emergency contact details supplied at pick-up;
3. call the police where required by law or requested by Skiathos Rental;
4. not admit liability, promise payment or privately settle the incident;
5. obtain the names, contact details, registration numbers and insurance details of the parties involved and any witnesses;
6. take clear photographs or videos of the scene, vehicles, damage, road, signs and relevant conditions, where this can be done safely;
7. not move or continue driving the Vehicle unless required for immediate safety or instructed by the authorities or Skiathos Rental; and
8. promptly complete and provide every requested accident statement, police document and relevant item of evidence.

The Renter must cooperate with Skiathos Rental, the police, the insurer, the repairer and any claims representative. Failure to follow the procedure affects protection only where it prevents or materially affects investigation, the insurance claim or recovery of an amount, unless a mandatory rule of law requires a different outcome.

12.2 €30 accident administration fee

A fixed accident administration fee of €30, including VAT, applies to each reported accident for which Skiathos Rental opens and manages an accident file, collects statements, photographs or official documents, coordinates with the police, insurer or repairer, or prepares the relevant claim documents. This fee:

• is separate from the cost of Vehicle damage;
• is not an insurance excess;
• does not alter the zero liability for Covered Damage under Comfort Protection; and
• is not charged where no accident file or administrative handling is required, or where the incident was caused solely by the proven fault of Skiathos Rental.

The fee may apply regardless of who caused the accident because it relates to the administrative handling of the incident and not to the damage itself.

12.3 Damage assessment and evidence

The Vehicle’s condition is compared with the handover report and available photographs. The Renter is not charged for fair wear and tear or twice for the same damage. Any amount due for damage is based on reasonable and documented parts, labour and directly necessary recovery or transport. Skiathos Rental provides an itemised explanation and supporting photographs, estimate, invoice or other reasonable evidence. If an initial estimate is used, the final charge is adjusted where the actual documented repair cost is lower. The Renter may submit a written enquiry or dispute using the contact details in Section 17.

12.4 Traffic, parking and other infringements

The Renter is responsible for all traffic, parking, toll, municipal or other official fines and charges arising during the Rental Period. Where Skiathos Rental must identify the Renter, forward a notice or administer a fine, a fixed €15 administration fee per notice applies in addition to the official fine. A copy or reference details of the official notice are provided where available.

12.5 Cleaning

Standard cleaning is included. A Vehicle returned with heavy mud or muddy water beyond normal use is subject to a fixed €5 cleaning fee, which includes the necessary air-filter inspection. For serious exceptional cleaning due to biological material, smoking residue, heavy stains, food, excessive sand or another condition materially beyond normal use, the Renter is charged the reasonable and documented actual cleaning cost. The fixed €5 fee is not added separately where an actual-cost charge is applied for the same incident.

13. Ferry transport to Skopelos or Alonissos

The Vehicle may be transported from Skiathos only to Skopelos or Alonissos, and only where:

• Skiathos Rental has given written approval before departure; and
• the Renter has purchased Ferry Travel Assistance before leaving Skiathos.

The charge is €8 per rental day, capped at €50 per rental. Ferry tickets and all carrier charges are paid by the Renter. With prior approval and payment of the required fee:

• the selected Protection Plan continues to apply in Skopelos or Alonissos, subject to the same conditions and exclusions;
• Vehicle Total Theft Protection continues to apply under Section 4.4; and
• Skiathos Rental coordinates roadside assistance through available local partners.

Ferry Travel Assistance and the Protection Plans do not cover damage or loss occurring while the Vehicle is being loaded onto the ferry, unloaded from it or carried on board. The Renter must immediately report the incident to the carrier and Skiathos Rental and obtain an official record. The Renter is liable for the reasonable and documented amount not recovered from the carrier, an insurer or another responsible party. Skiathos Rental will not recover compensation twice for the same loss. No assistance response time or immediate replacement-Vehicle availability is guaranteed outside Skiathos. Without written approval and the required Ferry Travel Assistance:

• use outside Skiathos is unauthorised;
• roadside assistance outside Skiathos is not included;
• the Protection Plan and Vehicle Total Theft Protection do not apply to loss occurring outside the permitted area; and
• the Renter is liable for the reasonable and documented cost of recovery, return, repair or other loss caused by the unauthorised transport or use.

Transport to mainland Greece or any island other than Skopelos or Alonissos is prohibited unless Skiathos Rental gives express written approval subject to specific terms.

14. Return, inspection and failure to return the Vehicle

The Vehicle must be returned to the agreed location on the confirmed date and at the confirmed time, together with all keys and supplied equipment. Where the Renter returns the Vehicle outside service hours or leaves it without a joint inspection, the Rental Period and the Renter’s obligation to protect the Vehicle continue until Skiathos Rental takes possession of it and carries out the first reasonably available inspection, unless a different return procedure has been agreed in writing. The Renter must not abandon the Vehicle or leave it at an unauthorised location. Failure to return the Vehicle and inability to contact the Renter may be treated as unauthorised retention and reported to the police, without limiting the Renter’s rights under applicable law.

15. Liability and personal belongings

The Renter remains responsible for personal belongings, luggage, phones and electronic devices left in or carried on the Vehicle. Skiathos Rental is not liable for loss, theft or damage to those items unless caused by the proven fault of Skiathos Rental and the relevant liability cannot legally be excluded. Skiathos Rental does not exclude or limit its liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraud, wilful misconduct, breach of mandatory consumer-protection law or any liability that cannot legally be excluded. To the extent permitted by law, Skiathos Rental is not liable for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made. Nothing in these Terms limits the customer’s mandatory rights under Greek or EU consumer-protection law.

16. Events beyond reasonable control

Skiathos Rental is not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by an event beyond its reasonable control, such as severe weather, natural disaster, port closure, interruption of ferry services, government restriction, strike, state of emergency or order of an authority. Skiathos Rental will provide prompt notice, take reasonable steps to minimise the disruption and offer the refund, alternative service or other remedy required by the contract and mandatory law for the service that cannot be provided.

17. Complaints, governing law, privacy and communication

17.1 Enquiries and complaints

Skiathos Rental acknowledges receipt of a written complaint and aims to provide a substantive response within a reasonable time. If a consumer dispute cannot be resolved directly, the customer may contact the Greek Consumer Ombudsman or another competent consumer alternative-dispute-resolution body.

17.2 Governing law and jurisdiction

The Rental Agreement is governed by Greek law. Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the competent Greek courts, without depriving a consumer resident in another EU Member State of any mandatory jurisdictional protection afforded by applicable EU law.

17.3 Personal-data protection

Personal data is processed in accordance with Skiathos Rental’s Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law. The Privacy Policy explains the purposes, legal bases, recipients, retention periods and customer rights. It is a separate document from these Rental Terms.

17.4 Language

The Greek version is the official version of these Terms. Translations may be provided for the customer’s convenience. If there is any difference between the Greek version and a translation, the Greek version prevails to the extent permitted by law and without limiting any mandatory consumer right.

17.5 Severability and written exceptions

If any provision is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. A waiver of a right or an exception is valid only when confirmed in writing by Skiathos Rental and only for the specific case stated.

Customer declaration of acceptance

By completing the booking and accepting the Rental Agreement, the Renter confirms that:

• the booking details are complete and accurate;
• every driver meets the applicable age, licence and experience requirements;
• the selected Protection Plan, security-deposit pre-authorisation and principal exclusions were displayed before confirmation;
• the Renter had the opportunity to read and save these Terms; and
• the Renter agrees to comply with the Rental Agreement and Greek road-traffic and safety law.
